i thought of riding the train to get to the bus station from taft to cubao. it was 5 in the morning, walking alone. i was able to take pics. i really don't know if it's allowed or not. guards were everywhere. of course, i am responsible enough not to use flash. i might cause a riot (but that would be fun, don't you think?). people were all sleepy except me coz' i was busy hiding my camera from the guards.

took me less than an hour to get to cubao which is nice. i always get there an hour or more before finally buying the ticket. maybe coz' it was still early and no one's mad enough to travel. i am. i assumed that since i was early, it'll take me lesser time to get home. maybe before or just in time for lunch.

Bayad Po

1)
"bayad po..." (here's my fare)

that's what I always say whenever i'm on a jeepney and is about to pay. and whenever i received my change back, i make sure i say "salamat po" (thank you) to whoever hands over the set of coins/bills to me. this has been my way. i got it from school i suppose where i was always told to give my gratitude back to someone who showed kindness (the rule of being kind and getting the same treatment back).

then here's someone next to me who seemed to have waited for a passenger to seat nearest to the driver (which is who else but me) then hands over the payment without saying a word nor was thankful after.

last sunday, my mom asked me to go with her for some groceries. i think she'll be loading some stock to the store. i was feeling lazy but have thought i never really got much time with my mom lately so i went with her. there i learned that a space from our store is somewhat "rented" by the barangay to give kids some area to learn stuff. i teased her of getting more income out of it but she said no. the supposed-to-be payment wasn't given yet. they started june. she's not even complaining about it. being the defensive one, i said, but how about the bills that she gets out of it-electricity, water, etc? she smiled back at me and says it's ok. she then shifted the mood to funny stories from her daily encounters with the kids. here's the story:

the reason why the kids were consuming the space in the store is because the school/barangay hall is being renovated. they're adding a second floor. the captain was suggesting a different location but the teacher is able to convince the leaders to have the classes conducted to our place just because it's the safest location for the kids, more accessible than what's being suggested and lastly, my mom's not complaining. ( i have a feeling the reason why they wanted the transfer is because of extra funds).

i have also learned that the books and supplies which the teacher use are actually coming from the salary and not out of the operations budget. there's supposed to be one. their request were sent out months ago, before the class started and till now, nothing. the funding that the teacher uses now depends on how much the enrollees are and we're talking about a small barangay on a small town.

i seem to fail understanding the logic out of it. how on earth would someone have her space rented and not complaining of the pay? how on earth would someone be wiling to accept a pay way lesser than the minimum wage?

it's simple. my mother just said that they love the kids. seeing them smile (though most are really annoying in ways) makes their day worthwhile.

early this month, we had an open house. more like introducing our company to those seeking for work. this is the first time we had done this. the number of participants were actually lower.... way lower than what was expected BUT we were happy that things went out smoothly and the best part was, our bosses were happy.

part of the program was free starbucks (both drink and bread). when our time was almost up, we decided to have the leftovers be shared to those lucky ones who happened to pass by. of course, this resulted to them telling their friends that we are giving away free starbucks. and we're talking about college students.

when the word got out, people started coming in. crowded. and surprised we were coz' a number (which my fingers can actually count of) have said they thanks for the treat against the rest who just barged their way in.

Unstoppable, Astonishing X-Men # 23

joss whedon (buffy, toy story) continues to deliver. he had brought mr. scott summers (aka cyclops) back to the charts.

my favorite x-man, cyclops together with emma frost (the white bitch, err, queen), kitty pride (shadow cat) with her pet dragon - lockheed, piotr rasputin (the not-now-dead colossus), dr. henry mccoy (beast), new student hisako ichiki (armor) and the always cool logan (wolverine) team up with s.w.o.r.d. and danger (sentient being who used to be their danger room’s program) fight against the breakworlders. yeah, another allien race convincing everyone the shi’ar in never enough for the earth’s mutants.

anyway, issue #22 showed how dead cyclops was. breakworld soldiers attack. him volunteering to be left out in space as the rest drop to the breakworld and continue the mission. last page actuallys showed him floating lifeless in the space. is it really vacuum out there, cyke?

but this issue, however, lets readers be amazed how great a strategist cyclops is. all according to the plan. he was brought back to life by the breakworlders’ technology (same process that colossus went through) questioning him what their plans are. it is also explained how his lies/deception against the green metal coated warriors is planted. thanks to telepathy, things were sorted out. they, the enemy, definitely fell for it.

what i loved the most is how his insane calmness, as wolverine says it, is expressed. there you go dead. you wake up realizing how it felt to be.. umm, dead. then you see someone asking questions which makes you dizzy, in pain and is surrounded by alliens (i used the wrong word since cyclops is the allien as far as the breakworlders are concerned). what will you do? just listen and wait till backup comes a knocking.

i wish i have that ability. lol! and have i mentioned that he lost his powers a few issues back? thanks to the insane white queen who left him drooling in bed.

anyway, pissed cyclops explained everything then shoots the executioner with his eyeblasts and said, “to me, my x-men.”

E is for Extinction, New X-Men # 114-117

when i heard they’re revamping the x-books again way back 2000, i was thinking of finally ditching my comicbook collecting and well, try to save more money instead. besides, my friend (the one whom i’m buying my comicbooks at) is saying farewell and will be closing his store in baguio for a change in career - in china.

i dunno what happened next but still, i am able to resist my conditioning and bought this together with the other x-books (xtreme xmen, etc).

first pages show cyclops rescuing some mutant kid with 3 pig faces somewhere in australia from a sentinel attack. okay, that’s promising but then realizing how wicked morrison’s mind is. i continued.

it seemed that the human gene is producing new species which we now call mutants. yes. mutants. mutants blooming out of nowhere like mushrooms. before, numbers were a handful till they realized how large their population is. let’s say like around billions.

so how on earth did the xmen find out? thanks to the newest unit the xavier institute have. before it was cerebro, the tracking machine but now, it got a bigger bad ass sister called… wait a second, guess first.

okay, time’s up. it’s cerebra. magnifying telepathic (even latent ones) abilities 10x more.

a spike, jean says but somewhat the very excited professor xaview missed it, neither does the beast who was overwhelmed of their new stuff. (o yeah, did i mention that he looks more like feline now and has 4 fingers for a paw? long story.

that spike was none other than cassandra nova. later issues revealed that she was professor xavier’s twin sister. get this, evil twin sister. mumudrai.

she was near ecuador lecturing some dentist (a trask relative) about evolution and how the evolved humans slaughter the lower species. very graphic is the presentation. you can actually see hands and feet flying.

the poor dentist didn’t do well at the end coz’ cassandra nova was just copying his cells to activate master mold and produce rouge sentinels under her command. finishing him off by piercing his heart. talk about heart break (get it?)

emma “the white queen” frost is introduced here too as a teacher in genosha. bitching actually but she loves her stuff so i guess, she’s pretty much doing good. gone were the generation x days with the banshee.

anyway, cyclops and wolverine were asked to go check the spike which jean saw but got ambushed by the rouge sentinels and were captured. they met cassandra but lost the pig-faced boy in the process as the sentinel burned his body to bacon smell. it was cyclops who gave the killing shot though as he used his eyebeams to end the boy’s agony (he did that? yes!).

they were able to capture cassandra though as wolverine slashed her throat.

before they were able to do so though, she ordered some sentinels to do something… and lifted off.

what did she order? oh nothing special, just to kill off billions of muties and burn genosha. the very island which magneto ruled over.

the xmen and the world were in tears that day. though not all coz’ some racists did like the idea.

cassandra nova is brought to the institute for questioning. while beast and jean went off to genosha to look for survivors. and there they met emma frost holding a dead student. how come she survived while the rest including magneto was a victim of the sentinels? thanks to her secondary mutation, turning herself into a diamond, she was able to see the next day.

back to the mansion, cassandra is a very resourceful woman. she was able to stop the xmen and show them how she mean her business. even the professor wasn’t able to stop her. she managed to get her bald head inside’s cerebra and psychic tentacles came out of her mind.

emma bless her soul, was thinking of helping the x-men all along or was it because she left her louis vuitton bag at the lab? she went back to check on it and snapping cassandra’s head in the way.

you also see prof xavier oulling the trigger and shooting the enemy. hardcore chuck.

so everybody’s safe now.

later that night, jean and cyclops were discussing issues about their marriage. him being possessed by apocalypse which changed his persona and her not standing on his excuse. she feels they’ve been too apart from each other too long already.

then they saw professor xavier appearing on a tv announcing to the whole world what he really is.

“ladies and gentlemen, i am profesor charles xavier and i am a mutant”.

i couldn’t draw without looking at something. i got this from bleach’s ichigo (matrix reloaded mode) but my officemate says he looks more like a man in black. i bet he’s a will smith fan.

Gone, Giant-sized Astonishing X-men #:1

when planet breakworld learned that one mutant would destroy them all, they took action - worked with humans to find a “cure” against mutation, revived long time dead x-man - colossus, attacked the xavier institute and launched a bullet straight to earth.

x-men, fantastic four, the avengers, dr. strange, sentinel, s.w.o.r.d. all the super powers in the world, gathered, yet not one was able to stop earth’s destruction.

sounds bad isn’t it? well, it will get worse than anyone thinks.

back at the breakworld, battle intensifies of the mutants against the breakworlders. colossus battling aghane who planned everything all along. beast to agent brand’s rescue but commented to have “wasted a concern” coz’ the lady dealt the situation by herself by using her power which are hot and glowy hands.

the defeat of aghane led to negotiation with the powerlord regarding the bullet’s weakness. breakworld is safe but still earth is on the cliff as the bullet is a few stars away towards it. it’s either they stop the bullet or have the x-men rule the breakworld since they won’t have a planet to go back to if ever. wolverine slashes the powerlord’s arm during the whole process.

cyclops and emma frost are on bullet’s tail. colossus is at the center of the breakworld’s power source, while the rest of the team are left to deal with the breakworlders. and, oh, shadowcat IS inside the bullet.

the earth’s heroes gathered to take action of a serious situation. the professor isn’t invited though which is weird in some way. something bad happened during the whole discussion as dr. strange suddenly went into trance and magically affected everyone. giving them a taste of satisfaction of saving earth in their own ways. only spiderman was able to get his senses back and woke everyone else after starting with storm. funny way it was delivered, he was supposed to have stopped the bullet just by his webs.

the sentinel who felt guilty of what it had done with genosha sacrificed its being and headed straight for an attack. which didn’t do much of a help since the target was still on its course.

all too late. every one of them. it’s up to shadowcat to do the saving this time. her power is to phase her molecules. more like a ghost passing through walls.

just imagine a big bad metal as big as 5 building in new york piercing its way to earth. thanks to her, the planet isn’t split into half or just burst into emptiness.

shadowcat rules!

the sad part was that the metal made her sick that she was unable to get off nor the heroes were able to save her out of the bullet. their theory was that, she was bonded with the metal. and by the time they have come up with a way to save her, she may already have reached other galaxies.

really great story for joss whedon to end his stint with the x-men. first issue was of shadowcat returning back to the mansion and final issue made her leave the mansion and off to space. the art is awesome as well. john cassaday drew such clean and clear images that gives more feeling to the story. love the facial expressions for everyone (yes, even the one he did with ironman).

the story didn’t end with them losing kitty pride. they showed what went after. the beast hanging out with agent brand who confessed she has the hots for him. wolverine drunk as ever but got a new apprentice by the name of armor. cyclops, in control of his eyebeams, but decided it’s time to return back to normal and says “i love you” to his girlfriend, emma frost.

scales galore

went there early this week for a field trip. it was an amazing experience. you get to see those colorful ones, those tiny ones and those oh-so-big you wouldn’t imagine they existed ones

i was hoping to get a view of those famous swimmers like dolphins, dugong, penguins but the park shows more of those that have fins and not fur. i saw a statue though so that ought to complete my day.

it’s located near luneta grandstand. so near you won't miss it. a few minutes away from the busy streets of Makati. best to visit the place on tuesdays till thursdays. it’s always packed on weekends and mondays & fridays. it’s usually a location for school activities so you probably won’t enjoy much if you have that much of a crowd.
